Opie Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Hoebeau: Went to do some spring cache maintenance, and found it muggled and completely missing. The hole it was in is empty, the rocks scattered, no sign of the box or its contents anywhere. This was my third and last cache to create - it is too disheartening to try to recreate this one. Mugglers are just crooks, plain and simple, and that takes the fun out of it for everyone else.

Geocache Description:

This is in the Albuquerque Open Space area at the end of Spain Road, at 6497'MSL off a good hiking trail.

Named for the "mascot" of the Osuna Park Neighborhood Association which placed it, this is a round cookie tin with a logbook plus toys and trinkets donated by some of the neighborhood's children and parents. Reconstituted from the old OPNA cache which was "muggled," Opie has been relocated to the top of the arroyo that flows past the neighborhood. It is in a family-friendly open-space hiking area (no flip-flops!) and almost exactly a mile from the parking area at the extreme east end of Spain Road. Park and take loop trail #305 from the water faucet counterclockwise.
Cache is only a few feet off the trail, but not visible from it!

Maintenance Note #1: The original round cookie tin had gotten too rusty, so it was replaced in late Oct 08 with a Tupper-like container in the same place. Loaded with old and fresh, new trade items, it is ready to go!

Maintenance Note #2: The cache was muggled sometime between February and June 2011, then the forest was closed due to a drought and fire danger. But now the forest is open and a whole new cache has been more securely hidden (I hope) at the same coordinates.
