Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Szuchie’s Walking Tour of
Arcade!
This is a cache that is specifically designed to introduce you
and your family to the quaint and charming town of Arcade, New
York. My goal in taking you on this tour is to show you some of the
things that Arcade has to offer. Please take the time to check out
the local eateries, shops, and enjoy a full day in this bustling
rural town.
Please note that this cache has been approved by the Arcade
Village Board and at NO TIME will take you on private property,
indoors, or through areas that are restricted or inaccessible. This
cache is also purposefully designed to be winter accessible as
Arcade also provides many fun town-wide activities throughout the
winter months. As the leader of this tour, I only ask you respect
the town and village rules as applicable.
The coordinates listed at the top of this page are the parking
coordinates that you’ll need to initiate this journey……So let’s
start the tour!
Start: Welcome to the Tour!
At the parking coordinates location you will find a sign in very
close proximity. The sign (as signs tend to do), is telling you
what you can and can’t do. Lucky for you, what this sign CAN do is
get you to the next sight on this most coveted of walking
tours.
To get your money’s worth, complete the following:
A = # of letter B’s
B = # of letters in the last word on the sign
C = # of letters in the third word on the sign
D = # of letter E’s
E = # of letter A’s plus the # of letter Y’s
F = B + D - E
Now plug in the coordinates and off we go!
N 42 32.ABC
W 078 25.DEF
1st Leg:
Welcome to leg one of the tour! I certainly hope you are
enjoying the sights. Now it’s time to get the facts straight and
hopefully, if you are paying attention (there will be a test), we
can move along to the next point on our tour of Arcade. To remain
with the rest of the group, please complete the following:
The building you have arrived at was made possible by the
generosity of Nadyne W. Devin and Frank G. Wilson in memory of
their parents and brother in what year?
(I told you there would be a test.)
Okay….pencils down. For the longitude, the third number of the
year is your A value. The fourth number of the year is your B
value. Now take the second number and subtract the fourth number of
the year from it. This is your C value. Plug away!
W 78 25.ABC
For the latitude, take the number of letters between the words
“made” and “through” and multiply it by the number of letters in
the month you find before the year. Take this total and add it to
the number of letters in the word following the word “In”.
Insert your answer as such: N 42 32.0??
2nd Leg:
Welcome to leg two! Well, so far so good. Hopefully we haven’t
lost anyone yet as we are getting to the most exciting part of the
tour. This next stop will take you to a plaque dedicated to one of
the hardest working men in Arcade! His name is Francis H. Connors
and he spent many years serving as a bookkeeper, clerk, treasurer
and trustee. If you know how many years he was on the job, there’s
more tour for you!
Take Mr. Connors’ years of service and divide the number in
half. Take that value and subtract from it the fourth number in the
year he started his career.
Insert as such: N 42 32.0??
Next…take the year Mr. Connors ended his career. Take the fourth
number and subtract it from the second number. This is your A
value. Now take the last number of this year, this is your B
values. Now complete this stop of the tour!

3rd Leg:
Stage three is a very special stop on our Walking Tour as it
honors the men and women of Arcade who fought so courageously for
our country. Please take a moment to thank these wonderful
individuals, and allow them to guide you to the next stop on your
voyage.
On this roll of honor you will find three numbers (two of which
are years). Organize them from the largest number to the smallest
number. For the latitude, take the first number of the largest
number. This your A value. Add your A value to the smallest number
to get your C value. For your B value, subtract your A value from
the smallest number.
N 42 32.ABC
Using your values from above, complete the latitude:
D = A multiplied by the smallest number.
E = C multiplied by D, plus C.

4th Leg:
Welcome to leg four, or as I like to call it, Mini Malibu. If
you find yourself in Mini Malibu between the months of October and
March you will most likely disagree with me entirely. But that
doesn’t mean you have to stop the tour here now does it?!
At this scenic location you will find a tall white pole near the
‘beachfront’. While mingling around the pole, look due South. In
the not so distant south you’ll find two numbers. They will be
rather “large” numbers, but try not to get distracted by which way
they want you to go. That is a direction for a different tour that
you didn’t pay for.
To continue this tour, take the sign with the smaller number.
Subtract the first number from the second number on that sign.
Subtract this total from the larger numbered sign.
Insert as such: N 42 32.0??
Now take the first number of each sign and add them together.
This is your A value. Take your A value and add it to the
difference between the larger numbered sign and the smaller
numbered sign. This is your B value.
Try that on for size: W 78 25.AB
5th Leg:
As we start leg five, you’ve probably realized that you’re
getting your money’s worth out of this tour. Our next stop has the
following sign located on the face of the structure:
( _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ ) _._. Corp.
Contained in that mishmash of empty spaces in parentheses are
two words (minus a purposely excluded bit of punctuation).
For the value of A, take the number of vowels in the first word
on the sign, and multiply it by the number of windows directly
below the sign. For your B value, add the number of letter I‘s on
the sign above you to Francis H. Connors’ years of service. Mr.
Connors you met a few stops ago at leg two of this tour.
Now insert your values: N 42 31.AB
Next, take your A value from leg four. This will be your X value
for this leg. For the Y value, take the value that you used for B
at the “Start: Welcome to the Tour” opening leg and multiply it by
two. Then subtract it from the number of consonants from the sign
of the building you are at. Finally, for your Z value, revisit the
D value from the third leg of your journey.
Insert as follows: W 78 24.XYZ
Now it’s time to finish the tour!!!
6th Leg:
This is the self guided portion of the tour. My only advice to
you is to walk (or park for the less inclined) next to the white
“G”. Behind the white “G” will lead you to the Walking Tour of
Arcade’s conclusion. No bushwhacking, mountain climbing, creek
walking, billy-goat wrestling or skydiving is required.
But there is a camera in the cache so take your picture and log
what picture number you were on the camera! You'll eventually be
added to the Walking Tour's Hall of Fame. We hope you’ve enjoyed
the tour, happy caching! (Is now a bad time to tell you there are
no refunds???)
