Fiore nostro, fiorisci ancora
Mario Luzi 1914-2005

Our flower, blossom again
Mario Luzi was the last italian poet who crossed the past century. The poet is dead on February 28th, 2005, after that in 2004 had been named Senator; when a poet dies is silent a voice of the soul, but, how Dario Fo said, is dead the Senator, because the Poet will stay always with us. In 1999, for the 700th anniversary for the start up of the works for the building of the Santa Maria del Fiore, the Poet wrote a scenic representation that was shown inside the cathedral. It was a dialogue between the workers of the building of Santa Maria del Fiore, at time of erection of the Cupola of Brunelleschi. The workers have different character and attitude, maybe against, but both submerged by the fascination and the pride of this great project of the Cathedral in the heart of the city. In the same representation Luzi gived also the voice to the cathedral itself in the poem: "OUR FLOWER, BLOSSOM AGAIN" "It is my voice you hear, I am Santa Maria del Fiore.. wanted me the city, devout over itself" that "asks, declares, and proclames itself like all the human things.."."a people pushed me - with their effort and their faith - sometimes also blasphemous - so high". In this way the work of Luzi is ideally joined to the other works of great artists as Brunelleschi, Giotto, Vasari, as well as anonymous humble workers, in a poetic fit that ideally joins they all in a sole afflatus with the cathedral: "to be a rock on which rest the foot - who arrives - and take a jump for the flight". I was full of dubts if put this cache or not, I wouldn't expose people to suspects making them roam around the monument in these times of barbarism when people and symbols are threatened, but after I thought that this is just what terrorists want: let us stay at home, fearful, and in the meanwhile the best places remain desert "Sometimes I fell alone - in the middle of the city - over me are the sun or the moon", but we want to go out, we want let this our hobby grow, blossom, and give fruits, so .. Our flower, blossom again! You can find the whole text of the poem in italian language at:
