Geocache Description:

After the success of my Wallingford Steps Geocache, I thought you might enjoy a hide in the adjacent neighborhood of Fremont where another wonderful set of steps provides access from the street to the Burke-Gilman Trail and the Ship Canal. Be aware that the closest parking spots all require payment. Free parking is available one block north.

At each waypoint you are looking for a postage-stamp-sized note with two letters written on it. Usually it will be attached to a small magnet. For example, A = 479, B = 382 might be found at WP1. To determine the coordinates for the next waypoint, substitute the numbers for the appropriate letter in the formulas below. All coordinates are as accurate as I can make them using aerial photography. The final is also magnetically attached. This urban hide is in a very public place. Often there are lots of people around. There are offices with windows providing a clear view of the area and there are plain-clothes security people who watch the steps using security cameras. Therefore, you must use EXTREME stealth when checking coordinates, searching, retrieving and re-hiding, else you will arouse suspicion and may compromise the hides. Probing at random will look suspicious and may accidentally knock the magnet loose, making it much harder to find. Follow the stealth instructions below and -- THINK AND LOOK CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU REACH.

The three waypoints and the final are all within a third of a mile. All of the hides are in public areas. None require going into private areas of the nearby office buildings and there is no need to use private steps or private walkways to retrieve any of the hides. All waypoints are attached magnetically in one way or another and need to be re-attached in the same way. Some are easier to find than others. They all can be found while standing or sitting as directed by the stealth instructions below. The final is well out of sight. Only the final hide is in foliage. As you pick up a magnet, be sure to note where and how it was attached, so you can return it exactly as found. That way others will enjoy the same experience that you did.
