History
In 1921, After John Lewis Childs death, the school was named in
his honor.
John Lewis Childs put "East Hinsdale" on the map when he was 17
years old when he leased some land in this location and opened a
Flower and Seed company. John Lewis Childs renamed the town "Floral
Park" as the town, Thanks to him, had vast fields of Flowers
There is no reason to go on the school grounds except if you
have kids and want to play on the playground :) This cache is
accesible from the sidewalk and even though it is not on school
grounds, I would avoid this cache during school hours just to be on
the safe side. The town also has it's own police department, better
to be extremely stealthy.
This location was originally part of the Long Island Rail Road
Creedmore Spur that went from Salisbury Park to Creedmore. When I
was a kid, there was tracks in this location. Look across the
street at the parking lot, up until about 15 years ago, there was
still tracks going through it. It was a nice discovery for me as a
child, especially when you see the Tower that is approximately
North West from the cache. It use to be owned by Vulcan Fuel
Company. If you head to my cache towards the end of the parking
lot, that's the approximate location of the train trestle that
spectators watched the very first Vanderbilt Cup race from.
