Welcome to Bellingrath Gardens Virtual Cache.
Because of the intense amounts of time and energy involved in keeping these grounds looking as amazing as they do, placing an actual cache in here would not be acceptable. So… I am creating a virtual cache here.
The coordinates will take you to a place where several plaques are mounted. E-mail me the answers to the questions below to get credit for this cache.
#1 On the plaque presented to Mr & Mrs Bellingrath, what have they nicknamed “these gardens?”
#2 On the plaque entitled “The Story of Bellingrath Gardens” These woodlands have become a “Mecca” for what? (Also on this plaque they realize their dreams of creating ______ the answer to #1.)
Now for some history
The gardens were orginaly purchased in 1917 as a fishing camp. Bessie started improving the looks of the place with flowers. They hired an architect to design them a home and gardens, and in 1932 they opened up their 60 acres to the public for viewing and it has been open ever since. Three years later the 15 room home was completed.
Bessie died in 1943, and the home was opened to the public after Walters death in 1955.
