CLIMBING GEAR IS
REQUIRED.
This is a small container
located 40 feet down a cliff face, it is 35 feet up the cliff
face. It is in an area not used by climbers for a lot of
reasons that I won't go into here. The Superior Hiking Trail
segment between Skyline Parkway and the Becks Road goes
right by the top of the face. The co-ordinates mark a large
boulder directly above the container. This is where you need
to go over the edge.
I would suggest setting up a top
rope and rappelling to the cache. I didn't need any
protection to set up the anchors as I found it easy to set up three
anchors using two 20 foot and one 50 foot piece of webbing. A
50m rope is long enough to do a top rope and bottom belay if you
want to set it up that way. I just rapped off the top.
A .5 cam would be nice to hold position while you sign the log.
If these
terms are "Greek" to you and/or you do not have the gear to access
the cache, you will need help. There is no point wasting your
time trying to climb up or scale down to the cache. All you
will do is get hurt. You just can't get there without
equipment. GET HELP.
I've been
meaning to do a cache like this for some time and I finally found a
reasonably safe place that isn't suitable for climbing. I
even sacrificed a small hex to hold the cache. Please be
careful when signing the log, if you drop anything I expect that
person to "undrop" whatever it was that went for a ride. I
wrote the title page in the log book while on rappel so I KNOW it
can be done. Please snap the lid securely when you're
done.
