Maitland Park is a Milwaukee County Park. I grew up in this
general neighborhood and this was only a grassy field back then as
it is in the crash zone for the Milwaukee Airport. The improvements
over the past several years have been welcomed by the neighbors. A
paved walking trail, benches and childen's playground area - all
within view of I-94 and the airplanes overhead. You might even
experience a "windsheer" the planes are so low here. Sorry, no
restrooms or water bubbler (fountain for our out of town visitors)
however the Golden Arches restaurant is not that far away if you
need those amenities.
This cache was placed with the kids in mind. The terrain rating
is between 1.5 to 2, depending upon how you approach the cache -
could be bushwhacking or tall weeds. My 9 year old niece, Messa was
along when it was placed, wearing sandals and a tank top and she
survived with a few mosquito bites.
Messa & I stocked the ammo box with some fun kid toys -
please trade fairly, trade up but please do not clean out the
cache.
9/6/05 With all the travel bugs that have passed through our
cache, we are changing the name to include Travel Bug hotel.
Please, trades only for travel bugs and coins. If you take one,
please leave one.
The Plane View Maitland Micro cache is also located in this
park, take the paved walking trail between this regular cache and
the micro cache to really enjoy this neighborhood park!
Due to the high muggle use of this park, please be watchful and
cover the cache very well.
This park does not have a parking lot. Street parking is
available along S 13th Street or near a small entrance off S Ramsey
Ave.
Hours are sunrise until 10 PM. Please, no after hours geocaching
as this is a busy street across from a Milwaukee Fire Station so
you are sure to get noticed.
This park was the former site of the State of Mind - Missouri
cache so it is possible the area will look familiar if you searched
for that cache. There used to be three farmhouses that faced S 13th
Street, the cache is located in what was one of the backyard
areas.
