Geocache Description:

The coordinates above mark the the location of WP1 of this 3 part multicache.

The Wallingford Steps connect N 34th St. with Northlake Way, the Burke-Gilman Trail, and Gasworks Park. Be sure to check out the circular mosaic called the Pond, a brightly colored glass and etched-metal mosaic, by artists Benson Shaw and Clark Weigman. Sit awhile and take in the view southward of Lake Union and the downtown skyline.

After you sign the log, cross the Burke Gillman trail and Northlake Way to visit Gasworks Park. There are two challenging Camp Latona puzzle caches in the park. But plan to spend sometime, as those caches are quite a bit harder then this one.

In scouting this location I found three excellent hiding places and being unable to decide which one to select, I used them all in a multicahe hide. They will be found in order as you move from the top of the steps to the bottom. STEALTH IS ESSENTIAL at all three waypoints as neighbors have a clear view of the steps from their windows above. For maximum stealth be sure the follow the instructions given for each waypoint.

Stealth Instructions for WP1: Sit on wood and reach down with your right hand. At each waypoint you will find coordinates and stealth instructions for the next waypoint. Be sure to bring a pen, as the final cache is too small to hold anything but a log.

Note 7/24/05: GPS readings in the canyon formed by the steps is sometimes a little wiggly, so use the stealth instruction to help you zero in.

Note: 1/21/2021: Final has been returned to the original hiding place. The coordinates for the final (given on the WP2 hide) have been revised to reflect this change.
