How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

Go east on I-40 from Albuquerque to exit #175 then North on Rt. 14 for 6 miles, to the Crest Road [Rt.536] Drive 13.5 miles to the parking lot @ 35 12.679 106 26.958. The cache is located on the North Sandia Peak. about 1.5 miles one way. Elevation 10,440 feet.

Take the crest trail North. The [TH] is East of the radio towers a few feet off the road, marked by a LARGE forest Service Sign. The trail will head NORTH along side a chain link fence east of the Towers.

You will pass a Sandia Mountain Wilderness sign.
At about one half mile you will come to the second sign that says [DelAgua Overlook 1.5 miles]
Continue on the crest trail North another mile or so until you near an Aspen Grove, located about 175 feet off the trail @35 13.817-106 27.168
From this spot you have about 0.4 miles to the North Peak & The Cache.

The trail is faint in some places but stays within about 35 feet of the cliffs. If you lose the trail go LEFT towards the cliffs. "Very little Bushwacking required"

As you near the cache/peak stay left along the Cliffs for some more great views.

On your hike north the Crest trail nears the cliffs at several places stop and enjoy the great views. Check out the Needle,Shield, Prow, "You will get a much different view from above"

My Granddaughters; Then 7&11 & I placed this cache on June 1-2005, and hiked thru some snow. Its was placed to honor there soon to be brother, who was born 8-26-2005

The cache is located on the left side as you near the peak.
Its at the Base of that 4' high weathered Stump
Located on the Lower Side

After finding the cache.There is a faint trail from the peak that goes a short distance maybe a 100 feet "5 minutes" thru the trees to the west and down over the front to a Great overlook.
