Geocache Description:

This cache is located near Odderøy Non Directional Beacon (NDB). There is just a few meters walk from the main road leading up to Odderøya. Note: New coordinates as of July 14th 2017

Odderøy NDB is used as a non-precision instrument approach facility to runway 04 of Kristiansand Airport, Kjevik. Read more about Kjevik in Norwegian at Kjeviksiden

The NDB is the tall antenna with the wires tied to the ground. It transmit the morse code signal ODR (--- -.. .-.) on 372 kHz in the medium frequency radio band.

NDB navigation consists of two parts. Onboard the aircraft you will find the automatic direction finder (ADF) equipment that detects an NDB signal. On the ground you will find the NDB transmitter like Odderøy NDB. ADF equipment determines the direction to the NDB station relative to the aircraft.
