Library in the Wood Geocache Description
The cache
is a 4 litre Tupperware container wrapped in a green plastic bag.
It is hidden just by a public footpath that runs between Mildridge
Wood and Mill Bank Wood close to Sevenoaks, Kent. There are
many ways to access this cache as there are public footpaths
leading into the wood from several directions. The terrain is
fairly straightforward and should be okay for young children (5
years +). To find this cache, you will need to walk through the
woods for about 30 minutes and cross the little bridge by the old
mill site.
Recommended parking is available by the side of the road
in Dibden Lane at
N51 15.754 E0 10.133
which is close to the footpath leading
into the wood (see photos). From this point there are two footpaths
available and you can take either one but the more direct route is
the one on the right when facing the woods (i.e. in the direction
away from the A21 Bypass bridge). On the other side of the wood,
there is also a footpath and parking by the side of a small road
leading off Gracious Lane at N51 15.064 E0 10.272 but this is
a much longer walk.
Mill Bank
Wood is a lovely walking area with a mixture of difficult and easy
paths. This is not a quick in and out cache and is designed more
for a nice walk of about an hour or more, however, it can be done
in about 30 minutes if you're in a rush. The wood is quite close to
the Greensand Way
(http://www.walkingpages.co.uk/trails_paths/LDP_greensandway.htm)
and this cache could be an interesting diversion on a longer
walk.
When you
are having a good walk and decide to stop for lunch or a drink,
then it’s often quite nice to sit down and read a good book
for a while. Hence the name of this cache, Library in the Wood, as it
contains several books suitable for various ages and tastes. Please
feel free to read and/or take a book when you find the cache or,
even better, exchange it for one that you’ve already read
yourself.
Once you
get close to the cache it should be fairly easy to find as its now
a few feet adjacent to the public footpath (see Spoiler photos for
cache location if you don't want to take any chances!). It’s
covered with some logs & twigs so the cache is not immediately
visible. Please replace in the same way so that rainwater does not
collect in the plastic bag.
The new
cache contains some toys and the following books:
“The
Fox Without a Tail” by Aesop
“How
to Avoid Kissing Your Parents in Public” by Lindsay
Macrae
“Dragon's Rock” by Tim Bowler
“Shattered Icon” by Bill Napier
“Replay” by Ken Grimwood
“Jericho” by Dirke Bogarde
“Voices in The Garden” by Dirke
Bogarde
“That Old Gang of Mine” by Leslie
Thomas
“The
Human Factor” by Graham Greene
