As the owner has not responded to either my log or my colleague's previous log requesting that they check this cache I am archiving it.

Geocache Description:

The area is woodland and meadow with well maintained footpaths. You may need to climb a stile to reach the cache. The site may be hard to reach by road if you don't know the area but once you get close it is open to the public with no access issues.

For those seeking the cache on foot I would recommend starting from the Jurys Inn Hotel (visit link)
From there walk only North and East before you cross the river. Don’t use the A30 and don’t be deterred by the traffic barrier

Since logging this cache site I have had countless requests for more information on the Cranebank Troll.

The Cranebank Troll
The evidence of Troll activity along the east bank of the river Crane is far from conclusive proof, however I think it fair to assume that the troll in question is not the larger Scandinavia cave or mountain troll but its small cousin migrusiturpis or lesser troll. These odious creatures differ from common trolls in a number of ways although they are aggressive, slow of wit and mean they lack the troll’s fabled sense of loyalty. Mountain trolls are said to spend many days sitting in mournful contemplation after killing a close friend (This has been attributed to their poor digestive system) however the lesser troll has never been known to suffer such remorse. They are nocturnal but this is thought to be from habit rather than risk of lapidation from sunlight. Being much smaller than the common troll they cannot use the traditional pounding and stomping as a means of overcoming their prey, they do have an impressive array of needle sharp teeth but their favoured weapons are sarcasms and body odour.

There are no recorded finds of troll hoards or caches south of Wetherby before 1848 and migrusiturpis only seem to have adopted the habit with any enthusiasm in the 1960s when Tupperware became available in the UK. Why these creatures should have developed such a liking for these plastic tubs remains a mystery. Having gained a tub by unfair means or foul they will start collecting items to fill it.

If you should find a troll’s cache by daylight you can examine it at your leisure, as the beast will never stir before nightfall. They either cannot tell or do not care what they have in their cache but they can count! To This kind of troll if ten things is what he left then ten things is what he will expect to find, if there are more thing in the cache he will assume that the extra item is a present from a female troll. However if the cache is short by one item the troll will not rest until his treasure is restored, he will follow any trail that has been left by the thief while plotting his revenge. This hunt could go on for years in theory but in most cases it only lasts a few minutes as the stupid little bugger has no idea what he has lost or how to find it, he will usually stomp around a bit then go and sulk for the rest of the night.
