This cache is in the Korowai/Torlesse Tussocklands Park.
You can find a noticeboard telling all about this at S 43°
17.783 E 171° 44.522 The cache name means "Observe the Cloak",
referring to the tussock grasses all over these hills. The Maori
word "Korowai" (a cloak) symbolises embracement and togetherness,
as the tussock embraces the landform, and the land wears the
tussock.
Being among such mountains reminded me of a poem I wrote, called
"There is no Load":
A warm spring day with city sounds reflecting the
measure,
the distance to the snows.
Cloud-girdles above the forest-dark haze;
your white ridges rest, your fields spinning in the sun.
You are so still and your solemnity gathers me to where I walked
in past winds;
The cold rock of our hands dripped melting on the flowers.
Happy in our burden of the snows,
stirring softly in our meditation,
welcoming the rains;
love of space and sky, of time and snow.
There is no load in the tussock or the years;
existence alone is purpose in itself,
sufficient in this tide of our seasons,
in this wardrobe of our snows.
