On the historical marker are listed 5 dates (years, four digits
each) some of the numbers are required to get the bearing and
distance (for projected coords) to the cache itself. No need to
write them all down, just do a simple alpha-numeric conversion by
stringing all the dates together in order from top to bottom, no
spaces and where the first digit in the first date equals “A”, the
second digit equals “B”, third “C”, etc. Example 1854 and 1855
equals 18541855 or ABCDEFGH. The bearing in degrees TRUE north
equals C,K (digital root 1) and the distance (X.XX km) equals K,(J
minus C),C (digital root 4)
Some will question the distance but the final coordinates,
created from this projection, are much closer to the parking lot at
the east end of the Loch where this cache is located. The other
cache in the series and the trailhead parking for the various
trails are at: N45.16.020, W074.41.234. HINT: YOU CAN HEAD OUT FROM
THE PARKING LOT ON THE REVERSE OF THAT HEADING UNTIL THE DISTANCE
MATCHES UP because the target where the cache is hidden is really
big.
The regular size container is camo’ed to match it’s hiding spot
at the foot of a large ash tree which stands beside a feature that
holds a very special place in the hearts, minds and backs of anyone
in Glengarry who has FIRST HAND knowledge of their creation. This
hiding spot was also chosen because of the size of this feature and
although not the biggest around, it’s hoped that in this age of
modern conveniences, many will appreciate that each component was
hand chosen from what always seems like an endless supply.
