PIZZA MECCA Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

CTReviewer: Greetings from Geocaching.com

I have been looking at caches in the area that have been temporarily disabled for a while now and it looks like your cache has been under the weather for some time. While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for you and block other cachers from entering the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time I don’t think we can do so any longer. Therefore, I have archived this cache. If you haven’t done so already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

When repairs to this cache are completed and it is time to have it reposted, it will be no problem. Just drop me a note and let me know the GC waypoint number of the cache or better yet, the URL of the cache page. You will still be able to access your cache page just as before by going to your “My Cache Page” and clicking the link of your cache.

I will be more than happy to take a look at your cache again to see if it is still is within the guidelines of the Geocaching.com website for cache placement and posting. I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute to geocaching in the past and am looking forward to seeing your cache up and running in the future.

Thanks for your understanding,
CTReviewer

Geocache Description:

A Micro Cache in New Haven's Little Italy - Wooster Street

The container includes a small log sheet and two stubby
pencils.

Among the earliest pizza restaurants in the country, if
not the earliest, are located on Wooster Street in New Haven
Connecticut. This is also known as New Haven's Little Italy.

Pepe's Pizza in considered by virtually all Pizza connoisseurs and
afficianados as the best pizza anywhere in the world.

It was reported that some tourists in Italy asked their waiter where they
could get the best pizza and the waiter's response was "the best
pizza is at Pepe's in New Haven Connecticut".

Pepe's was founded in 1925 by Italian immigrant Frank Pepe. In 1938 Frank Pepe's nephew, Sal Consiglio, opened up his own pizza restaurant just down the
street appropriately named Sally's.

Today there are two unyieldingcompeting camps of pizza fans arguing who makes the better pizza Pepe's or Sally's. This debate even made it into the 1992
Presidential election when the Clintons, both Yale graduates, visited the area they made the politically correct statement on the matter. Bill favored Pepe's while Hillary favored Sally's. Thereby covering all of their political bases.

Wooster Street also has other nice restaurants and shops where you can get Italian Ices,
pastries and cookies and just about any other thing Italian. The Honey Wolves believe that Pepe's is the best pizza that can be found anywhere. We have had pizza in New York, Boston, Chicago, LA, Rome, Sicily, Venice, Florence, Parma, Sorento, Memphis Tennessee and elsewhere yet Pepe's pizza consistently rates the best in our
opinion. (Memphis was the worst - ughhh - it tasted like cardboard - what do you expect in Memphis anyway? get BBQ there not pizza).

We have been going to Pepe's for well over 20 years. If you are not a discriminating pizza consumer ( like any ordinary GAVONE ) You may not appreciate this pizza as much as true pizza fans like ourselves.

The original Pepe's location is called "The Spot" and is next to the current larger location. Usually there are very long lines to get into the main restaurant but the locals know that the identical pizza can be had at "The Spot" and the wait is much shorter.

President Reagan and President Clinton both visited Pepe's during their Presidential campaigns. No matter where you go on Wooster Street, you will not go home hungry. We love the clam pizza with tomato sauce, garlic and muzzarella. There is nothing better
tasting than that. Experience historic New Haven's Little Italy
. "no wildlife, state property, children or
muggles were harmed during the placement or retrieval of this geo
cache" Thanks ; ) The Wolves
