Bridges of San-star Counties Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

Krypton: As there's been no response to my previous note, I assume that the cache is not going to be repaired or replaced, so I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us, and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it

Thanks for your cooperation!

Geocache Description:

You'll have to travel between two counties and find two bridges along the historic El Camino Real, in order to solve this short multicache. (Trust me; it really is short--no multiple trips required.)

This somewhat non-descript bridge has a bit of history to it. It spans San Francisquito creek, and is the link between San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties. The original De Anza expedition passed over the creek at this spot (check out nearby GCA001 for its history). The creek also marked the demarcation line between the territories of Santa Clara mission and the San Francisco mission, and the bridge sits on the Kings Way (aka El Camino Real), the road linking all the missions in California.

The current structure was built in 1913, and then widened in 1955 to accommodate more lanes of traffic. If you look, you can tell which side is the original, and which side the expansion. It is a concrete arch-deck design, with a single span. The bridge is 19.2 meters wide and 37.2 meters long. The sidewalks are each 1.8 meters wide.

The posted coordinates will take you to the northwest corner of the bridge. Find the sign that says "San Francisquito Creek Bridge AB-CD", where AB-CD is a four digit number.

X = B + C - D
Y = D - A

The final cache is located at a nearby wooden bridge of a different type, and more remarkable in a variety of aspects. Its coordinates are:

N 37 26.BBB
W 122 10.AXY

Parking is easiest at the Stanford Shopping Center (just south and east of the cache coordinates), and there is no need to move your car to get to Stage 2.
