[EN]Komorni Hurka is a very intensively investigaded volcano and world famous. The attention of a great number of scientists was atracted by this hill over more than 200 years.Interest rose in the late 18th and early 19th century, when the scientific, dispute between"neptunists" and "plutonists" about the origin of basalt culminated.According to the neptunists(Neptun - the Romangod of water) was the basalt formed by precipitation of dissolved matter from seawater.Volcanic ashes and slags were interpreted as molten rocks by the heat of burning coal seams in the underground. The "plutonists"(Pluto - the Roman god of the underworld and subterranean fire) were of the opinion that basalt had been formed by volcanic activity, which is today undoubtedly accepted. J.W.Goethe,poet and enthusiastic scientists, contributed significantly to this geological discussion. He visited Komorni Hurka several times.
