Geocache Description:

Nice and easy cache, very pushchair friendly and with easy access and parking. I parked at N51° 02.354 W001° 02.850 but it is possible to park in the nearby village of Privett and the walk is a similar length.

This cache is placed near a tunnel on the now closed Meon valley railway line. This is the Southern end of the Northern tunnel, called ‘Privett Tunnel’. The tunnel was 1056 yards long and is one of two tunnels on this disused railway line. The line was opened on the 1st June 1903 and closed during February 1955. Parts of this line are now used as walks and well worth exploring if you have enough time.

I originally had a cache called Mouth at the Northern end of this tunnel, so was a bit stuck for a name for this cache!!!!! This cache was replaced with a micro near this location called ‘Not So Mouthy’ and would be a nice easy cache and dash if you are in the locality.

After doing this cache have a look over the fence looking South and you will see the remains of the old railway line, but keep the children on a tight rein as the fences around here are a little neglected and the drop to the bottom of the cutting is steep and considerable.
Good luck and enjoy the view.
