Geocache Description:

This is a multi-cache in the pretty village of Thakeham West Sussex.

Leigh wanted to do this cache as a celebration of his 13th Birthday on the 26th March.

Thakeham is a small pretty village with views of the South Downs and is mentioned in the Doomsday Book.
In the Great Norman survey of 1086, it had 30 villains, 12 bondsman and 8 ploughs, a church and a mill of 3 shillings, 16 acres of meadow a wood of 60 hops, total value £14.
Described in 1843 as an out of the way parish with no resident gentlemen! It had a population of 597 an the average wage was 12/- (60p) with a beer in the summer.
The church St Mary's, which is where some of the clues can be found dates back to Norman times.
It is a well looked after and cared for church so please treat with respect when searching for the clues.

Now to the start of the cache, the Co-ords for the start is at the Heritage Trailboard, which is a small parking area near the church path, there is another carpark just round the corner, both free.

The co-ords at the cache had an accuracy of 6.4 metres and the signal is a bit erratic on entering the woods, but after 3 visits these were the best results. Given ratings high as could be muddy when wet.
THE CACHE IS VERY WELL HIDDEN.

The cache is not a long walk from the church approx 1Km. Follow footpath, which is well posted, and take in the views as you go. One small comment is that an electric fence crosses the footpath, but the farmer has kindly put in a safe passing point in which there is an insulated handle to make a break in fence(unhook it). This must be rehooked on both crossings, to keep farm animals under control. Cache site is in woods just beyond.

Cache is small square plastic food tub with white lid, containing logbook, pens, small toys, USB lead, pluto soft toy and is under large tree stump just inside woods with lots of coverings. Bit prickly to retrieve.

Hope you enjoy this cache as much as we did placing it.
