If done in one trip, this cache will take you about 2 hours to
complete (if walking), including the time to get the final
coordinates. It's an easy walk.
The container is a peanut butter jar, when hidden it contained:
- A log book
- Loaded dice
- Dice game (10 dice)
- Poker dice
- Wooden die
- Two purply miniature dice
- 10 faces die
To find this cache, you will need to determine the area
of the Lac Leamy while walking/biking/roller
skating on the paved bike path surrounding it, as well as
its perimeter. During winter, many people are walking
on this paved path, so you'll have no trouble staying on it.
There is even some ski trails. Make sure your GPSr is not
obstructed to have the maximum precision. For the bikers, a
piece of advise, don't go too fast or your GPSr will cut the
corners, speed is not your friend!
Most (I hope) GPSr can compute an area from a track log, if
yours can't, perhaps once imported into your computer software,
you'll be able to do it, and if even that isn't an option, well I
guess you'll have to team up with another geocacher for this one,
or try to guess the area and check many possibilities! Every
GPSr will probably be different, but for mine, you need to tell him
to activate the area computing before starting to walk. You might
want to try this at home before heading there to know what to
expect. Emptying your track logs first might be a good idea
before starting.
Measurement units
- Area: Hectares (1 hectare = 0.01 km² = 2.471 acres)
- Perimeter: Kilometers
To get to the cache, project
yourseft from the posted coordinates
- Bearing (True North) = (AREA (Rounded to the
closest integer) x 77) % 360
- Distance (Meters) = PERIMETER x 50 + 360
Note: % is used as a Modulus operator (commonly used in
programming), NOT division.
Modulus definition: The remainder of the left number divided by
the right.
For examples: 10 % 6 = 4 -> 10/6 = 1 4/6
Note: Digital root of the area (after the rounding) is
one. And remember, its not only the lake area, its the area
delimited by the bike road surrounding the lake.
Updated (April 2, 2005)
A micro container with a tag on it has been hidden on a bridge
you'll cross while walking around the lake (The closer one from the
Casino). It will give you the area. This container is easy to
retrieve, no need to be an acrobat. The calculations to get the
projection distance have been also modified to be more forgiving in
case your numbers doesn't match mine.
Please, NO SPOILERS in your logs, or they will be deleted
immediatly. If you think there is any problem with the cache
setup, please email me.
