Kincaid Park CITO Event Cache In Trash Out Event

This cache has been archived.

NorthWes: It's been ten days since the event and all the travel bugs have 'cleared' the CITO event, so I'm archiving this listing. Thanks again, Alaska Cachers!

Geocache Description:

Meet at 10am Sat. April 16 - Kincaid Park Chalet - for a CITO work event, with a short information meeting to follow in the chalet at noon. Park managers have asked for our help in cleaning up one of the crown jewels of the Anchorage's park system. Earn a cool new event icon for your account listing! Please post a note if you're going to attend to help us refine our cleanup plan...

This will be no 'walk in the park,' as local land managers have asked geocachers for help in cleaning up after the winter's accumulation of animal waste in the immediate vicinity of Kincaid Park Chalet. Alaskans are used to mud during breakup, but 'unscooped' waste from dogs has become an unwelcome herald of spring here in our hometown...
Of course, there's the usual load of regular winter trash that will need cleanup as well!

Park management will provide some resources such as bags and gloves, as well as directions on areas to target. Participants are encouraged to bring a shovel, gloves of their own, rubber boots (and a stuffy nose!?!). Dress in layers to be outdoors in breezy weather near the inlet waters, ready for several hours of work. The Chalet's bathroom facilities will be open for use in cleanup afterwards. We've been challenged to show our commitment to the CITO ethic in one of our favorite cache zones, so come join the fun as we say thanks to the park managers with a little spring cleanup project.

At noon, after the work portion of the event, we'll have an informal meeting in the chalet, so bring a lunch for yourself to enjoy as we:

• Learn about the new Alaska geocoin under development
(and how to place your order!).

• Get updates on organizational efforts for an Alaska geocaching association
(following a first meeting of more than 30 Fairbanks-area cachers on March 19th).
If you're interested in participating, now's the time to attend!

• Bring an item to drop in a cache that will be placed in the park immediately after the event. It's a medium-sized ammo can, and will be called 'Swords into Plowshares' in commemoration of the conversion of the former Nike missile base here into what we now know as Kincaid Park!

CITO workers will have first crack at several new permanent caches to be placed in the west Anchorage area, using information sheets available only at the event. Of course, the caches will go online immediately afterwards for all to enjoy.
