Hiking or biking, this is a workout! 5-6 miles with 2000ft gain in elevation. Views on clear day are without compare.
This cache is at the top of a peak on Saint Helena in Robert Lewis Stevenson park at 4213ft. If hiking, park at N38 39.169, W122 35.975. If biking, park at N38 39.328, W122 35.801 in the pullout on the south side of the road. Go up the fire road on the north side (you can not bike up the first part of the hiking trail which takes you past the Robert Lewis Stevenson cabin site). The fire road and hiking trail meet up about a mile up the hill. If it is a warm day, bring LOTS of water. The switch backs up top are 10-20 degrees hotter than the covered areas. If you are going to bike, like I do, make sure you check your brakes BEFORE you go. A brake failure at the wrong time on the way down could send you off a cliff. Also, on the way down, check your speed, especally on the curves, there are hikers and TRUCKS on their way up. (I missed one SBC truck by a couple feet on one trip). If you are going to bike it, you need to be in pretty good shape, it is a grind. I do the hill in 1.25 hrs, but I am 41 with bad knees. The best time to go up is right after the rain. On a clear day you can see the Sierra Nevada mountain range, the Ocean, and San Francisco. If you go when warm, watch out for Rattlers. This Cache is for those who like a good view with their workout. It is best to go with others since there is no help up there if you get into trouble. Hope you enjoy. I left some old music Cds, and some TP in the stash (Just for Emergencys) I had to redo this cache because it was too close to another cache. Redid on my birthday. I still got it.
