Geocache Description:

This micro-cache is situated in South Cubbington Wood in rural Warwickshire.

The wood is at the southern end of an almost continuous stretch of woodland, covering about 2 miles. The other parts include Waverley Wood, Weston Wood and North Cubbington Wood. This one is semi natural, and includes oak, ash and some rarer plants (wild service tree, midland hawthorn and small leaved lime). The berries of wild service tree are edible, and were once used to make an alcoholic beverage called chequers. No free samples here, I’m afraid.

From near to the cache, you’ll get a view of the village of Cubbington, including the Norman church of St Mary, where Jane Austen’s brother was vicar in the early 19th century.

This cache is part of a series created by ‘A Coventry Way Association’. The association was originally formed to promote a long distance footpath, A Coventry Way, and to support local authorities in the path’s maintenance. Our primary aim was to encourage people to discover and use the local countryside. A book of 21 Circular Walks was produced, broadly based on the main walk. Our plan is to set out a variety of caches, located on or near each of the 21 walks. See ‘www.acoventryway.org.uk’ for further information.

The cache is standard 35mm film canister, containing a log-book. It is located on a public footpath on walk 7. The 9-mile walk starts at Bubbenhall (N 52 20.813 W 001 28.106). For a short walk, parking is available near to the King’s Head pub in Cubbington (N 52 18.711 W 001 29.799). The path is muddy in winter. If you spot something rammed well in and inaccessible, then you've found the original cache, not its replacement.

Included in the log are the coordinates to another cache, Tubular Belle. However, there is an error (15/08/15) with the given cords - I will correct asap, but for now, make the following correction:
replace 6 with 3; replace second 4 with 1.

The full walk includes Keith’s Birthday Cache, On Weston High, Cubbington View and Tubular Belle.
