Geocache Description:

Near the oldest mine in the world

The cache is placed under a boulder beside the pathway leading to the Lion Cavern (old mine).
This mine is thought to be the oldest mining operation in the world, dating back +/- 43 000 years, and is located beside a non-functional modern open cast iron ore mine.
Plan your visit, allowing time to walk round for a while to admire the magnificent views and to explore the area, there is also a small historical museum and picnic / braai area. You could also visit the Malolotja nature reserve in which this mine is situated. (There is however a different entrance to the reserve itself). See the attached link for more details (visit link)
