Geocache Description:

Haystack cache site is at the top of Mount Hooiberg. There are about 561 concrete steps from the (N 12deg 31.156’, W 069deg 59.626’) parking area to the top. Part of the way there is a handrail, but children should be minded carefully, as there are lots of thorns and cactus at the edge of the steps. Once at the top there is some rough terrain to find the container.

Hooiberg is the local Papiamento word for Haystack. This lone peak sits about 400 feet above all the surrounding area, giving a great view of most of the Island. You can see the ocean to the north, east and west.

Irresponsible individuals, who have littered, have abused this mountaintop. I have placed trash bags in the cache for any environmentally conscious person to use to pick up some of this trash. There is a barrel at the base of the mountain. If the barrel is full please take the trash to a container where it won’t be blown around, as there is always a breeze on the island. Every little bit helps.

This cache has two themes:
1st CITO (Cache In Trash Out)
2nd Key chains (the cache is in a green 2-liter container with a sealed top. Please trade key chains)
It contains a logbook and pencil.
25 trash bags
10 Aruba key chains for trading

Please sign the log book.
Trade items, keychains prefered but any small item is ok. Use one of the trash bags to take a few pieces of trash down the mountain with you.
The cache container should be put back exactly as found to avoid non-Geocacher’s from finding it and misplacing it.

Warning!!! Do not leave valuables in your car. It will be out of sight for a few minutes and the thieves know it,

Small note on cache maintenance: I live in VT USA and plan to visit Aruba in Nov and April each year. But have arranged for an Aruba local to maintain the cache in my absence if required.
