Turkey Hill Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

PaperBlob: Checked it out after the recent DNF, and it is indeed gone. Turkey Hill Cache had a good, long run, so I think I'm just going to let it go. Thanks to all who came looking for it over the years!

Geocache Description:

T u r k e y H i l l

No, not the ice cream.

Five or six years ago I was headed home from work, and as I drove past “The Mount” I spotted some wild turkeys walking along the side of the hill. Never saw anything like that in suburbia before, so I rushed home, packed the family into the car and zoomed back…but the turkeys were gone. And nobody believes me to this day. So if you see any turkeys while you’re searching for this cache, take their picture and post it here – prove to my family I’m not crazy!

The Cache:

The cache is a large Lock-Lock-type container hidden in a straightforward manner. I added half a star to the difficulty rating to account for tricky satellite reception. No stickers or poison to worry about. Please take care to reseal the container properly to keep moisture out!

The Site:

This nice little spot shows up on maps as Mount Laurel State Park. Once NJ’s smallest state park, it’s no longer on the official list of state parks; the state now leases it to Mount Laurel Township. Named after the mountain laurel that grows there, it’s an interesting place to explore. Be sure to check out the big-leaf magnolias near the N/E corner of the property. Benchmark hunters will find one on the Mount and another one nearby.

Also worth visiting are the recently restored Farmer’s Hall at the bottom of the hill, and the Quaker Meetinghouse across the street. Please be careful and respectful around these historic sites.

Important:

  • Don’t drive up the gravel road.
  • Stay away from the communications tower at the very top, which is private property.
  • Though it’s just a small hill, there are some steep trails, so be careful when they’re wet or covered with leaves.

Notes:

Original contents: FTF/STF prizes were a $10 Target gift card and a Mini Maglite. Also included: Jeep TB, Book Crossing copy of Ender’s Game, signature items, homemade tooth fairy pillow and origami Christmas ornament, other assorted high quality trade items.

FTF was either tneigel or lavarock. They can fight it out for themselves!
