Roman History Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Ergo: Exitus.
De mortiis nihil nisi bene.

Geocache Description:

This is an easy multicache located in the north of Graz, close to Frohnleiten. It will lead you to some roman traces there (but not to all that are available in the area, if you want to see some more, have a closer look at stage three).
Some remarks first:

The calculation of the number behind the decimal point does not follow any .xyz systems, which means that you will always obtain a number with three digits, exept for the final cache. There will be a number with just two digits, in that case just add a "0" to obtain a number with three digits, e.g. the result is 53: enter .053 in your GPS unit, but that should be clear anyway ;-)

You should enter the locations of stage four, five and the cache itself only in the timeframe between 8:00 to 18:00.

Obey the remarks for your approach to the next one at some stages.

If you want to walk all the way along the stages you could park your car somewhere at
N 47° 13.848; E 15° 19.062.
If you don’t want to spend too much time finding this cache, you can also go to stage one, two and three by car and leave it then at stage three. In that case it will take approximately 1.5 hours to find the cache and to get back to the car.

Another cache related to the topic of this one is Gert’s “Dead Romans” cache.

The cache originally contained:
Logbook (please do not remove)
Pencils for your log (please do not remove)
One-way Camera (please do not remove)
Trinidad and Tobago Dollar
Marble
CD
Cable controlled Car
Squirrel
Candle
Diddl Pencil

Have fun! Magicschurl & Bina

Stage One: The Treasure
N 47° 13.893
E 15° 19.134
#Value#
#Discovery Year#
#Depth#

Stage Two: The Memorial (not really roman)
N 47°13.[Discovery Year/2 - Value - 22*Depth]
E 15° 19.[Discovery Year/2 -Value- 37*Depth]
#Day#
#Month#
#Memorial year#

Stage Three: Some Informations
47° 13.[Discovery Year/2 - Value- 37*Depth]
15° 20.[Day*Month + 6*Month + 4*Depth]
What would be the distance to Salomon?
#Salomon#

Stage Four: Traces
N 47° 13.[(Memorial Year - Salomon)/4 + 18*Month - 2*Depth]
E 15° 20.[(Memorial Year - Salomon)/8]
#Macrinus#
#Severus#

Now, before you start calculating the coordinates for stage five, the following is important for your approach: Don’t look at your GPS unit right now, it would be a bad guide at that point!
Follow the signposts pointing to the “geologic thing” with the “geometric shape”. Later on your way up, there will be other signposts available: Follow the one with the word. that is pronounced similarly in German and English as well. Remember, you don’t ever have to leave that path/track; it will lead you very close to stage five.

Stage Five: For Hercules and Victoria
N 47° 13.[Macrinus + Severus + Salomon*(Day + Month)]
E 15° 20.[(Discovery Year - 2*Depth)/10]
#First Uncovering#

For the approach to the cache I recommend to follow the path which starts behind “The Object” and that can hardly be seen from where you probably stand. There might be a cow- fence there, but it should not exist during all seasons, just crawl down-under if necessary.
Again, you will never have to leave this path (always move straight, do not care about the turn-offs) except for the last 15 meters to the cache itself.

The Cache:
N 47° 13.[(First Uncovering + Value - Month/Salomon)/4]
E 15° 20.[Day*(Salomon - Depth)]

If you have a weak signal in the area, just use the hint, there is a spoiler photo available as well.
Please take a photo of you, sign the logbook and hide the cache again carefully, so that it cannot be seen from the nearby path.
If the zip-loc should be damaged, please use the enclosed zip-loc to save the cache from water and dust and leave a message for me in your online log.

For your return follow the way (you just came) further on until you reach another path you should remember.
