The cache is located off a very gentle hiking path. Depending on
the weather, it can be muddy sometimes. Some roots are on the
ground but a street bicycle could ride this trail. The cache is
well hidden but not difficult to access.
Container is an octagon-shaped tin. Blue, silver, and brown in
color. Painting on the lid and green geocach sticker on the back.
This cache is located in Pascack Brook Park. At the time of
placement, this was a great opportunity for CITO. The Pascack Brook
is part of the Hackensack River watershed. That means that the
water from Pascack Brook flows into the Hackensack River. This
feeds into the Oradell Reservoir where 700,000 people get their
drinking water. Forested buffers around our drinking water sources
are important as wildlife habitat and as filters to clean pollution
that doesn’t come from just one source. Examples of non-point
source pollution are chemicals from lawns and golf courses, and
runoff from streets. For these reasons, Pascack Brook is moderately
impaired in its ability to support a healthy aquatic ecosystem. If
you decide to complete the length of this hiking trail, you will
see a retired landfill being converted to recreational space. The
area around the cache has been cleaned up dramatically since
initial placement.
