Once upon a time, a young Indian
princess (or you could get all PC about it and say Native American,
but that's just unwieldy, and besides, I'm trying to keep this
short and that would just drag things out way too long. Who needs
that?) fell in love with a poor English trapper. Their star-crossed
love was disrupted by the ire of the princess's father, who had
better ideas than letting his beautiful child run off with some
jerky-chewing schmoe that reeked of rotting raccoon. "Marry a
soldier," he would say, "that way we can get all the rifles and
shiny buttons we want." Forbidden to marry, the young lovers
decided instead to paint the rocks of the Narrows with their
steaming entrails. They ascended to the high cliffs of Will's
Mountain, got a good running start, and sent themselves careening,
hand in hand, into the loving grasp of Mr. Physics.
If you want to know more, ask a policeman, or go to the
Legend of
Lover's Leap. While you're surfing, check out the History of
the Narrows.
In more recent history, there was
a cache here previously by vp & teaberry, but like the
lovers, it is no more. Hence the 'Encore' in the cache title.
Available parking can be had at:
N 39° 39.884
W 078° 46.416
You might be able to drive the road leading up the mountain, but be
mindful of the gate that blocks it. The company that maintains the
service road reserves the right to lock the gate at any time.
This cache is a three-stage multicache. The first two stages,
both near impressive views of the Narrows, are not containers, but
small objects displaying the coordinates for the next stage.
None of the stages require you to climb out onto, over, or
around the cliffs! While we encourage you to explore the beauty
of this area, please refrain from doing anything stupid. There is
yet another, more popular view at the following location:
N 39° 40.155
W 078° 46.726
This is believed to be the actual location of Lover's Leap.
The final cache is a regular ammo can. Watch your footing!
Shifting rocks and soil can make for tricky going! The first
finder will be rewarded with a special prize.
