Geocache Description:

A quick and easy roadside cache for travellers and a nice scenic drive if you wish.

LaRue Cemetery on the Parkway by the eastern entry to the Old River Road is designated as the oldest cemetery in the township. It is the resting place of Billa LaRue, Loyalist timber merchant and mill owner, and other members of his family. The oldest grave is that of his son Joseph, who was almost six when he died in 1804. Stop to see the heritage marker.

LaRue House c.1800 shown as #247 on this map, is located on the Old River Rd. at The Thousand Islands Parkway. The present exterior of the oldest house in the township belies its beginnings as a log structure. The clapboard siding, porch, chimney and kitchen tail were added much later. Built by timber baron William (Billa) LaRue, the once vast property included the earliest lumber and grist mills in the township. The outbuildings date from a later period, when the land was farmed.

Good luck and I hope you take time to travel The Old River Road west to Rockport. The Old River Road first appeared on an 1812 government map as a footpath extending from the village of Rockport to Larue Mills, a distance of 7 km (4 1/2 miles).
