Geocache Description:

This fountain was made possible by several grants. One of which is from the family of a local couple who designed and built the original fountain. This “new” fountain stands in loving memory of them (Mountain Goat’s parents).

She was born on a nearby farm which was homesteaded in 1891 by her father and uncle. He was born in Texas, but moved to Woodburn at a very young age. They grew up in the local area, married, and raised their family in Salem.

He loved Mt. Angel and always felt this neglected “island” needed a fountain to greet travelers coming into town from the south. In 1970, he designed and built the original fountain, but due to many years of neglect and poor maintenance all but the base had to be removed. Today, this beautiful new fountain, erected over the old base, and landscaping keeps this couple’s dream and memory alive.
