Cycle Circuit Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Firth of Forth: Archiving due to lack of interest. There are now so many other caches in the area, most folk won't want to do a multi like this.

Geocache Description:

A tour of North Edinburgh's disused railway routes.

This multi-virtual micro cache is best done on a bicycle. You will not need to cross or go on a road. However, it can equally well be done on foot. The circuit comprises cycle paths created from disused railway lines. You will need to bring your own pen or pencil to sign the log (and maybe a calculator!).

A map of the cycle paths in Edinburgh and beyond is available from Spokes (www.spokes.org.uk). The 'Edinburgh City Bike Map' costs £4.95.

1. The Statue
N55 58.522 W003 11.452

You can park right next to the statue. There are two dates of a monarch’s reign. The number of years between the two dates = A.

2. The Monument.
N55 58.480 W003 11.460

Find the date that this monument was presented by the Leith Horticultural, Industrial and Sports Society, 188B.

3. The Tunnel (or FoF's Revenge).
N55 58.528 W003 12.177

Unlike Pooter, I shall not send you into the tunnel (although this one is lit!). Count the number of stone facings making up the archway of the tunnel = DE.

4. The Bridge.
N55 58.373 W003 12.510

Count the number of square stones on the arch = FG.

5. The Station Platform.
N55 58.336 W003 12.824

You are standing on a disused station platform. Count the number of fence posts concreted into the ground = HJ.

6. The Lamppost.
N55 57.995 W003 11.961

There is a series of letters and digits on the lamppost that has a neighbourhood watch sign. It is WPU 0K.

7. The Junction.
N55 58.218 W003 11.564

How far is it to Queensferry? 1L miles.

8. Stedfastgate.
N55 58.302 W003 11.439

There is a good view of the cityscape from here; in fact it is a popular spot for watching the Hogmanay and Festival fireworks. On the east side of the stone monument, is an inscription containing 6 words. Using the usual A=1, B=2, C=3 etc, find the numbers for the 11th (M) and 15th (N) letters.

The Final Coordinates:
N55 58.PQR
W003 11.STV

To find the final coordinates of the micro cache (a film canister), use the following code:

P = ((GxH) – (M+N))/(D+F)
Q = ((B+N)xF)/(A+L)
R = ((ExF) + (K+L+M))/J
S = square root of ((DxE)–(HxJ))
T = (AxB) – (DxFxE)
V = ((AxK) + (FxG))/(B+N)
