PARTS 1 & 2 PRESENTLY AWOL - USE HINTS TO LOCATE FINAL PART
This 3 part Multi-Cache is part of the 6 Kingdoms (GCK4J3).
It's quite a tough physically to bag, but take it easy and you should be up and down within 5 hours...
The weather in the Mournes can be very changable, make sure you are prepared...!!!
Slieve Donard is named after St. Domhangart, a contemporary of St. Patrick who founded a monastery at Maghera.
The Annals of the Four Masters tell us that the mountain's earlier name was Sliab Slánga, clearly a name from pagan times. Sláinge, the son of Partholon, was the first physician in Ireland. He died in Anno Mundi 2533 (2533 years after the creation of the world according to Irish mythology) and was buried here in a cairn.
Another early name, Benn mBoirchi, is preserved in the modern Irish name for the Mourne Mountains as a whole: na Beanna Boirche, 'peaks of the peak district'.
Slieve Donard is the highest mountain in the Mourne Mountains area and the 19th highest in Ireland.
Slieve Donard is the second most easterly summit in the Mourne Mountains area. It's also the second most easterly summit in Ireland.
