Wander along an old logging road, hike the woods and enjoy the solitude of a fern-lined hardwood valley.
There are many ways to approach the cache. This is one of them:
From Saint John, travel east on the Mackay Highway towards Rothesay. When you see the green sign, 2km to Exit 137 A-B Rothesay – St. Martins, look for an ATV trail that parallels the road. Adjacent to the green sign the ATV trail turns into the woods. Start your hike at this point [N45°21.872’ W65°59.480’]. Follow this trail for approx 130m then take the old logging road that branches off to the left. Continue hiking the old logging road until it intersects a stream. The logging road ends at the stream so record the coordinates [N45°21.799’ W65°59.214’] for your return trip. Cross the stream and start bushwacking your way to the cache. The forest is mainly hardwoods and fairly open so walking isn’t difficult. As the crow flies, it’s approx 300m from the stream to the cache. During your hike, keep the hill to your right and you'll end up at the bottom of the valley. In the past we flagged a trail from the stream to the cache but there are so many other pieces of flagging tape on the trees left by hunters that it's confusing, so bushwacking is the easiest way to the cache.
Cache is a Rubbermaid casserole container covered with a green plastic bag. GPSr WAAS accuracy was 4m when the cache was stashed.
