Botanique, an unique cache
The Ardeche is being in good repute on its medieval villages where ancient streets and buildings are kept in good condition. One of those Ardeche-villages is called Lagorce (evoluated from the Gallic name “Gotia” which means spicy hedge). Lagorce is a very rusty and rural village which is located between the “vallée de l’Ibie” and the Ardèche-river. Its area is 6000 hectare large and accommodates approximately 700 inhabitants. The highest point is called “Dent de Rez” (800 meters), a rock which looks like an enormous molar. Lagorce is an Eldorado for those who like old stones.
When you started from "Monument aux Morts" and go by foot along the church, you will see two built-in stone tubs where vine-growers put a part of their harvest in order to pay the landlord. This is the reason why this place is called "place de la Dîme". Above this all you can watch the bell-tower with its sundial which dates from the age of chivalry. Among this you also see the escutcheon from the first landlord of Lagorce which is dated from 1240. When you pass under the arch you will find a street which has kept its traditional nature in the characteristic style of this region.
For walkers this is a nice area. The community has included a botanical walk and that is the reason for the name of this cache.
During our 2004 summerholiday we crossed this village and decided to leave a cache in this area. The cache is hidden in a steel, green munitionbox. The cache is easy to approach via an easy accessible path and therfore also qualified for children. It’s not far from the road and no steep hills need to be climbed.
