Geocache Description:

Ogo's Hole cache is on the edge of Llanymynech Hill which stradles the border of Shropshire and Wales.Parking can be found at N 52 47.407 W 003 04.953 at the entrance to Llanymynech Wildlife Reserve. The cache is an ammo box. There are areas where No Entrance etc. signs have been placed and they refer to the cliff face itself. Obey these and keep to the footpaths as the cache can be found without trespassing and there are some dangerous drops etc.

Enter the reserve from the track by the car park and take the left hand footpath. Again, the sign near the entrance is referring to the cliff face. Follow the footpath up through the reserve till you come to Wales :) There is a style here. Eventually, you will come to a fork in the path. Take the left hand path and follow your GPS. Be aware that there are sheer drops so best keep the dogs on lead and kids in hand for the last part.

This is one of the three base level Fables, Myths and Legends series of caches. The coordinates above are correct. On the reverse side of the usual Geocaching card inside the cache container is a key which you will have to record (please don't remove the card).

The instructions for the final cache 'King Arthurs View' explain how to use this key along with the others recorded at the remaining two base level caches to arrive at the final coordinates for 'King Arthurs View' itself.

The Other Caches Are:

Fables, Myths and Legends ... The Lost Mermaid - Base level cache

Fables, Myths & Legends .. Shropshire's Robin Hood - Base level cache

Fables, Myths & Legends ... King Arthur's View - The Final Cache

This one definitely comes under the heading of fable. Ogo's hole is almost certainly just another mine shaft of which there are many scattered around the hill. It was claimed to be an entrance to Fairy land and there is the story of the blind fiddler who entered the hole and never returned. Of course it is said that occasionally you can still hear his fiddling... Although there is a large hole (quarried) near the cache, this is not actually Ogo's hole itself. That is on the English side of the hill in the middle of a private golf course. Public footpaths do provide some very pleasant walks in and around the golf course however with very nice views. Should you decide to try and approach the cache from this direction please be careful! There are some treachorous sheer cliff faces between the golf course and the cache.
