Geocache Description:

The remains of the Keweenaw Rocket Range.

The Keweenaw Rocket Range was a NASA-operated base for launching sounding rockets between 1962 and 1971.  A few years ago, some friends of mine decided to erect a memorial marker on the site.

The place is darn remote (all distances are straight-line).  From the top of US 41, go about 4.25 miles on bumpy road to a left branch (near N47 25.960 W87 45.822).  Go another 2 miles on terrible road to a fork (near N47 25.770 W87 43.438).  Take the left branch.  The cache is at the end of 0.4 miles of halfway-decent two-track.  If you have 4WD and don't care about your vehicle's finish, go ahead. If it's rained recently, expect some huge puddles along the way. Bring hiking boots and DEET.

The range site is right on the shore of Lake Superior, just about at the tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula.  Manitou Island is visible from the beach.  You might find some agates among the pebbles.

This virtual cache replaces Rocket Ranger, which has been stolen twice.  If you find the old cache container, let me know.

To get credit for finding this cache, post a picture of your GPS on or next to the marker.

Look for the Meander Corner section-corner marker on the rocks at about N47° 25.859' W87° 42.889'.
