The purpose of this multi cache is to give a little history of Meadville, and introduce people to some of the attractions downtown.
The cache is in a black ammo can and is very well-stocked at this time.
The trail/road to the cache tends to be muddy so come prepered. Hunters might be in the vicinity during hunting season.
The coordinates at the top of the page will take you to the area encompassing the Meadville Market House and the just-completed Impact Meadville Project. This consists of a row of new townhouses, a six-level parking garage, and the newly-renovated Kepler Hotel which has condominiums and retail and office space. The following coordinates will lead you to an easily-located micro in a black keycase (with parking close-by) at the start of the trail to follow to the actual cache container. This micro contains the coordinates for the actual cache. Please be sure to leave the card inside the micro after you put the coordinates into your GPS and replace the micro as you found it.

According to the sign in front of the Kepler Hotel, it was built in 1890, enlarged in _92_, and served the Meadville community for 60 years. The Kepler family had operated hotels since 1812, at Woodcock, Venango, and Titusville, before coming to Market Square in 1875. The Kepler was revitalized in 2003 by the Meadville Redevelopment Authority as part of the Impact Meadville Project. Add the missing digits from the above date on this sign and substitute it for "A".
Face the front of the Kepler Hotel and count the number of columns (top and bottom) going across the front of the building (only the ones facing you - not the ones on the sides). The second digit of this number is "C". Subtract 6 from this number of columns and the answer is "I".
Go onto the front porch of the Kepler and read about David Dick, whose home was once on this site. The last digit of the year he died is "E".
Now move over to in front of the Market House. According to the historical marker near the street, it was built in 1870, enlarged in 1916, and rescued in 197_ by a community drive. The Meadville Market House is the oldest continuous use market structure in Pennsylvania. Fresh produce and flowers are sold outside (closed Sundays), and the Grist Mill Restaurant and Creative Crust Bakery can be found inside. The Creative Crust offers a vast array of freshly-baked breads. Also inside, you will find a smashed penny machine, candies, homemade pasta, coffees, coins, maple syrup products, crafts, and more, so try to come when it is open. The missing digit from the year the Market House was rescued is "J".
Double the number of fancy lightposts in front of the Market House and you will have "H".
On one corner in front of the Market House is a tall elaborate clock. The day in September of 2003 when this clock was dedicated is "D".
(NOTE: There are also 2 micros within a mile of this area. Check them out if you have time.)
Now drive (or walk) up Chestnut Street to parking in the vicinity of N 41 38 295 W 080 08 993 where you will find our community park which is referred to as the Diamond. There is a large gazebo and several statues and commemorative markers in the park. Go to the tall monument at the north end of the park. There is a carving of the first log cabin belonging to the founder of Meadville, David Mead. The first digit of the year this monument was erected is "B".
On the west side of the park, right at the edge of the street, is a monument to firefighters. Subtract the third digit of the year it was erected, FROM the first digit and you will have "F".
A little south of the gazebo is a large rock dedicated to Colonel William Crawford, for whom Crawford County was named. Add the first digit and the third digit of the year he was born and you will have "G".
Now you are ready to find the micro. We're not just stringing you along hook, line, and "sinker" when we say the micro is hidden in a very obvious spot. Just look around and your success will be "cemented". (Please try not to put anything in your log that would inadvertantly give away the general area where the micro is located.)
