Long way from nowhere. A difficult trek from Church Rock or Hunkerson Gap. Must have good boots and common sense. Go prepared for anything.
No matter how you get here, you're still on the backside of the twilight zone. Ok, you've either got here from the BLACK ROCK cache site or from SPOOGER'S REVENGE hide up on top of Church Rock. If it was from BLACK ROCK, continue on along the ridge; heading in a southwestern direction. Sonn you will encounter the DEAD ZONE. You must traverse a large area of dead trees. 1000's on the ground, everywhere you look. Keep going. The stash site is located at N38.45.094,W078.52.650. The elevation is 3063.......WARNING!!!!! BE VERY CAREFUL HERE!!!!!!......you must climb up on the rocks to the highest point. Best approach will be by way of a pine tree growing up out of the rock. When you reah the top, the cache will be hidden on a shelf just under the rock. You will have to step down to retrieve the container. You will be stepping down on a ledge only 2 feet wide....No special climbing gear is needed, but the individual must be geared towards excitement and a love of adventure. Original contents include: logbook w/pen/pencil, fishing hooks, carry sack, comb, Mossy Oak can cooler. If you still feel energetic, go on to N38.44.935,W078.52.733...this is the Fitz benchmark. From there, you can head to N38.44.637,W078.52.955. Here you will intersect a trail marked with white paint. This will lea you to Church Rock and beyond to the other cache sites on the mountain there.....HAVE FUN!!!!!!
