What is art? To one person, an item may have artistic value, but to another, the same item might bring a response of:
WHAT THE . . . ?
The subject of this virtual cache could easily elicit either response. I'm going to put my heart on my sleeve and state that this is my favourite public sculpture in Melbourne. I can't explain whyit just appeals to me. Sculpture can be like that sometimes: you can like it or lump it!
To "find" this cache, please email me with the answers to the following questions. At the coordinates above you will find a small plaque in the ground that contains most of the answers. As usual, please don't post the answers here.
- What is the name of this sculpture?
- Who is the artist?
- What year was the sculpture placed here?
- Who commissioned it, and in what year?
- And to prove that you actually visited the site: There is a green access plate in the ground at the southern end of the sculpture. How many holes are there in the plate?
And to the big question: what does it mean? Stand back; have a good look; and contemplate the sculpture's name and its shape. What do you make of it? Feel free to express your opinion in your log, if you wish.
Thanks for visiting. I hope you find the sculpture worth the visit.
