Geocache Description:

A visit to one of Gästriklands many historic ironmaking sites.

This cache is the final part of a multi-cache based around Sandviken in Gästrikland with a metals theme. Four other caches need to be found before this one can be done.

The co-ordinates given above are those of Storvik railway station and are only used to position this cache in the correct area for searching. THIS CACHE IS NOT AT THE ABOVE COORDINATES. The cache is within 3km of here and can be found at these co-ordinates (WGS84):

N 6a° bc.def' E 1g° hi.jkl'

In order to turn those letters into the correct numbers you will have to refer to the following:

Metals
Nickel a=0, c=3, e=7
Copper a=0, c=0, e=2
Aluminium a=0, c=4, e=5
Chromium a=0, c=0, e=1
Molybdenum a=0, c=1, e=4
Towns
Sandviken b=3, d=4, f=2
Gävle b=3, d=6, f=4
Hofors b=3, d=3, f=8
Ockelbo b=3, d=9, f=1
Söderhamn b=3, d=5, f=8
Rivers
Dalälven g=6, i=4, k=7
Gavleån g=6, i=3, k=4
Testeboån g=6, i=9, k=5
Jädraån g=6, i=1, k=2
Hoån g=6, i=2, k=2
Attractions
Gysinge Herrgård h=3, j=1, l=0
Storstollet h=2, j=9, l=2
Högbo Herrgård h=4, j=7, l=6
Briggen Gerda h=2, j=9, l=2
Carl XIII Bridge h=2, j=2, l=9

As you can see there are four groups (metals, towns, rivers and attractions), each with five words. In order to choose the correct word in each group you will have to visit four caches. The correct word is written on the back page of the logbook. The caches are:

In search of Steel - I Jädraås - Tallås - GCJ80C
In search of Steel - II Hälltjärn - GCJ80D
In search of Steel - III Gammelstilla - GCJ80F
In search of Steel - IV Oslättsfors - GCJ80G

When you have all four words, take the appropriate lines from the groups above and substitute the letters in the co-ordinates for the numbers indicated. For example, if the metal was nickel then 0, 3 and 7 would go in place of a, c and e to give:

N 60° b3.d7f' E 1g° hi.jkl'

Do this for all four and you have yourself a complete set of co-ordinates which will lead you to this cache.

Please refrain from giving any clues to the location in your log entries, whether encrypted or not.

If you can't find it or are having trouble working out the co-ordinates from my complicated method above then please e-mail me via the [profile] link. Send me the four words you got from the other caches and I'll send you a set of instructions to help you locate this cache.

Good luck and happy hunting!
