offline.cacher: Caches in George Washington and Jefferson National Forests
Groundspeak recently became aware of a geocaching policy that affects USDA Forest Service land in your area. It's apparently been in the books since March 2006, and affects specific locations in what they call Region 8, which includes the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests. A permit is now required. See http://www.fs.usda.gov/activity/gwj/recreation/otheractivities/?recid=73539&actid=103
The full permit is available at this URL as a PDF file:http://www.fs.fed.us/r2/recreation/special-use/forms/new-forms/fs-2700-5d.pdf This PDF file is linked from the USDA Forest Service's page for National Forests & Grasslands in Texas, but affects all of Region 8. Look on the left-hand navigation on this page, under geocaching: http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/texas/recreation/.

As you can see, a "special use authorization" must be obtained for each geocache and a fee is charged for each time a person wants to hide a geocache.

However, local station managers may be willing to discuss the issue with you. The managers locations are on the park website.
