This is a Virtual Cache located in Big Cypress National Preserve. To claim this virtual cache take a picture of yourself beside the marker and post it on this cache page. Near this historical marker in 1936 the Governor held a meeting with the Seminole Indians. The Seminoles told the Governor that they just wanted to be left alone. The descendants of the Seminoles still live in the area. There are two museums nearby where you can learn more about them. One is the Miccosukee Cultural Center just 25 miles on east. The other is the Seminole Museum off I-75 on Snake Road. To learn more about this meeting go to this web site: www.miccosukeeseminolenation.com/pohoam-checkish.htm While in the area take time to enjoy the alligators and many birds. If you have time drive on east 5 miles to the Preserve Visitor Center. To learn more about the Preserve go to this web site: www.nps.gov/bicy/
