We wanted to set a cache in this area that was appropriate for the Group of
Seven Travel Bug and, of course, Algonquin Park comes immediately to mind given
the original Group of Seven's close connection with the area and the fact that
it is on the way to North Bay, the next stopping off point for this TB. However,
wanting to be sure that we didn't place a cache actually on park lands we
decided to get as close as possible without being in the park and yet
still make it interesting.
So we aimed for the very bottom right hand corner of the park which
conveniently is right by the trail to Mink Lake through crown land. We placed
the cache just outside the park boundary (which is not physically marked at the
location except for a couple of trees tagged with orange tape which possibly
might indicate the corner of the park). We used the topo maps and the power of
the GPSr to make sure we were outside the park.
This is a regular cache in an ammo box and when placed contained:

- Meowchi TB
- A candle
- A Whistle
- A sticker album
- A paint set
- A number puzzle
- A balloon pin
- A screwdriver set
- A (new, no virsues!!) 250MB Zip Disk
The actual cache is 96m off the trail. The trail meets the Peterson Rd. at 45°
11.779' N, 78° 06.999' W which is right at the county line. We left the trail to start bushwacking at 45°
12.108' N, 78° 07.101' W which is where there were a large number of animal
tracks and so we figured the local wildlife knew the best route.
