Geocache Description:

This cache is located in the Caroline Black Gardens in New London, CT. Original contents include a FTF prize as well as a clone of the Chain Reaction TB with FTF pin provided by the TB's owner.

The Connecticut College Arboretum website describes the CBG as follows: "The Caroline Black Garden is distinctive among the Arboretum plant collections. It includes native and exotic species as well as some very unusual cultivars. It currently contains 187 different woody taxa,which makes visiting the garden a rewarding experience throughout the year. In autumn, the entry beds are striking with their ornamental grasses and late blooming plants. Many mature evergreen specimens make it lovely in winter, and the garden is literally ablaze with flowers in spring. Summer blooming plants include colorful Azaleas and the Sourwood (Oxydendrum arborea) tree."In 2001, The Caroline Black Garden was dedicated as a member garden in the international organization, Gardens for Peace. This not-for-profit organization seeks to promote and achieve peace in the world "through the universal language of gardens.Enjoy these gardens in all seasons!3/31/04: I decided to add these directions for parking after reading many of the recent logs. Hope that helps!From New York and the South: From I-95 North take exit 83. Make a left at the light at the end of the exit. Go to the next light, and turn right past the entrance to the Coast Guard Academy onto Route 32 North. Turn right at the third stop light, and then an immediate right onto Winchester. Bear right and go up to the Connecticut College Office of Career Services building and park there in the lot. The main entrance to the gardens is at the far end of this lot through a decorative wooden gate.From Hartford: Take Route 2 East to the end onto Route 395 South (Exit 28S) - Travel approximately eight miles to exit 78 (left exit) and get onto Route 32 South. Continue on Route 32 South, under the pedestrian bridge and make a left at the light,and an immediate right onto Winchester. Bear right and go up to the Connecticut College Office of Career Services building and park there in the lot. The main entrance to the gardens is at the far end of this lot through a decorative wooden gate.From Rhode Island and the North: From I-95 South take exit 84 N. This will bring you onto Route 32 North. At the third stop light, turn right and then an immediate right onto Winchester. Bear right and go up to the Connecticut College Office of Career Services building and park there in the lot. The main entrance to the gardens is at the far end of this lot through a decorative wooden gate.
