Located near Wilburton, Oklahoma. Open April thru November. If you vist this site when this site is not open..just post a picture of you with the sign..Concharde

Robert S. Kerr Memorial Arboretum & Botanical Area This a Virtual Cache in a very unique area of Oklahoma. After stopping by to see this area be sure to stay on Hiway 1 and travel east to Mena, Arkansas for the view of a lifetime! The Robert S. Kerr Memorial Arboretum, Nature Center and Botanical Area consists of 8,026 acres which contain special plant communities that are significant in their occurrence, variety, and location such as the windswept dwarf white oaks, yellow buckeye. Ouachita indigo, and grass seeps. This area is bordered by U.S. 270-59 and Forest Road 6007 on the north and the Talimena Scenic Byway (east of U.S. 259) to the west and south. The recreational facilities available in the area include the Kerr Nature Center (three short interpretive trails. toilet facility with flush toilets and drinking water fountain, and pavilion), Opportunities include hiking, sightseeing, photography, nature study, bird watching, and of course Geocaching! Open March thru November. Handicapped accessible. Trail Highlights Located at the Kerr Nature Center on the Talimena Scenic Byway, these three interpretive trails feature a variety of plants which are identified by trail signs. The interpretive signs also tell the fascinating story of how a tree competes with other forest inhabitants for survival. In addition, they explain the process of soil formation and its importance in the forest life cycle. The trails are an easy walk for the day hiker and provide an opportunity to experience the variety of ecological areas that exists on a single mountain.
