Geocache Description:

The coordinates leads to the Kanavansuu suburb, some 7 km from the centre of Lappeenranta –city. The “old Kanavansuu” was known timber mill area: big lumberyards, own fire station, school, shop, large sawmill and a lot of nice wooden houses. Nowadays You can find there modern achitecture as well as rebuilt older buildings. The Lappeenranta Housing Fair was arranged in that area in 1999. The cache is hidden in Huhmarvuori. Huhmarvuori is well know observation place among bird watchers. Every autumn thousands of waterfowls pass the hilltop while migrating to the south. There is also a very special-like construction at the hilltop. In order to find the cache You must take a closer look at the surroundings of the old water tank there. Yes, it looks like a space rocket, but in fact it is an old water tank that guarded the lumberyards of the old timber mill. The cache ( a plastic jar) itself is hidden in the hollow under a small boulder in the vicinity of the tank.

Koordinaatit johdattavat Kanavansuun kaupunginosaan, joka on noin 7 km päässä Lappeenrannan keskustasta. Vanha ”Saha-alue” oli tunnettu vanhasta sahastaan, jota ympäröi suuret lautatarhat ja puiset työläisasunnot. Lisäksi alueelta löytyy mm. oma paloasema, koulu ja tietenkin kauppa. Tänä päivänä alueelta löytää restauroituja vanhoja rakennuksia uudemman arkkitehtuurin joukosta. Valtakunnalliset asuntomessu vuonna 1999 järjestettiin Kanavansuun alueella. Kätkö sijaitsee Huhmarvuorella. Huhmarvuori on tunnettu havainnointipaikka ainakin lintuharrastajien keskuudessa: joka syksy tuhannet vesilinnut ohittavat vuoren huipun matkallaan etelään. Vuoren huipulla on myös mielenkiintoisen näköinen rakennelma. Todellakin, se muistuttaa läheisesti avaruusrakettia, mutta on ”vanha” vesisäiliö, joka on suojellut alueen lautatarhoja aikoinaan. Kätkö itsessään on muovinen rasia, joka on piilotettuna kivenkoloon pienehkön lohkareen alle säiliön läheisyyteen.
