The
cache has been placed, with permission, on the Hugh M Gillis
Public Fishing Area property. A special thanks goes out to
ranger Jimmy Miller for getting this area approved for
caching.
The 740 acre Hugh M Gillis Public Fishing Area features a 109
acre lake stocked with largemouth bass, bream, channel catfish, and
black crappie. There are two Kid's Fishing Ponds that are
intensively managed for high catch rates of channel catfish. The
Kid's Fishing Ponds are closed except for scheduled events for
children under 16 years of age. Kids' fishing events are scheduled
through the area manager.
Anglers 16 years of age or older must possess a valid WMA stamp
and a current fishing license. Outboard motors of any horsepower
may be used at idle speed only. Live bait is allowed.
Of special note for this cache is that there are several areas
of Altamaha grit (a rock formation) around the lake. There is no
parking fee, but the gates are closed at sundown.
