Geocache Description:

A remote cabin in the hills above Oslo, where WW2 resistance men killed time between weapons airdrops by playing cards.

The cache is very close to the cabin Lurikoia, named after a WW2 resistance man who was extremely sly at playing a card game known as "Twist the 8" ("Vri åtter"). This area in the heart of Nordmarka was a key destination for weaponry airdrops from England during World War 2, and the men based here guided the airplanes, secured the parachuted containers and made sure their contents were put to good use fighting the nazis. Around Nordmarka there were dozens of secret bases like this one. Lurikoia is sponsored by the Norwegian Resistance Museum. Visitors will find it closed. This is also the site of a kjentmannspost, active until June 1 2005. A good starting point would be Stryken (train and parking) at N 60 09.907 E 010.43.112. You are in for 8 km of hiking on a mix of forest road, blue-marked trails and unmarked trails. From the road past Båhusseter, there is a trailhead at N 60°10.238 E010°36.949. In winter, red-marked ski tracks will take you part of the way. However, expect to blast your own trail on the final ascent and be careful, as more than a few have broken a ski or worse in this area. Warning: The hint will tell you exactly where the cache is.
